Newcastle transfer news: How much Real Valladolid will sell Ivan Fresneda for

Newcastle United want to sign Ivan Fresneda from Real Valladolid, and they can reportedly get him for less than his release clause.

When the Magpies’ interest in the Spanish right-back first emerged last week, it was reported by AS that he has a release clause in his contract worth £26million. However, it will increase to £39million once he has played 22 games for the La Liga side.

That has reportedly encouraged clubs to act early and snap Fresneda up now, with Newcastle in the mix to sign the talented 18-year-old.

Eddie Howe is in the market for a young right-back, as he looks for a youthful understudy to Kieran Trippier. That would give him more depth in defence, as well as a future replacement for the England international.

Fresneda fits the bill, and could be an affordable option during the January transfer window.

How much Real Valladolid want for Fresneda

According to Calciomeracto, Real Valladolid are willing to sell Fresneda if they receive an offer worth between £13.2million and £17.6million.

That could be good news for Newcastle, as that is pretty close to how much they are willing to pay. It was reported earlier this week that the Magpies are hoping to sign Fresneda for somewhere in the region of £8.75million and £13million.

If you take Newcastle’s maximum and Valladolid’s minimum, we aren’t too far apart. Even at Valladolid’s maximum, Dan Ashworth could only be £4.6million away from doing a deal.

That is promising, as Newcastle have been priced out of a lot of players since the takeover last year.

However, they do face competition for Fresneda. Calciomercato believe that Newcastle and Arsenal are leading the chase, while they also believe Juventus are keen – which is why it is being reported by an Italian outlet.

That could complicate matters for the Magpies, but they may have an ace up their sleeve. Fresneda currently plays for Valladolid alongside a former Newcastle player – Kenedy.

The Brazilian winger had two loan spells at St James’ Park back when Rafa Benitez was manager. He has spoke fondly about his time on Tyneside, even if his first loan was a lot better than his second.

Hopefully Kenedy can put a good word in, and that might help Newcastle win the race to sign the talented teenage right-back.
