Newcastle transfer news: Dominic Calvert-Lewin could be sold by Everton after big losses

Everton could be forced to sell reported Newcastle United target Dominic Calvert-Lewin after posting big losses.

The Toffees are seemingly in some financial difficulty, having lost a whopping £121 million last season alone. And over the past three seasons, they have lost £373 million – more than any other Premier League club.

The club’s hierarchy have accepted that they will need to sell one of their top stars in order to balance the books.

And it could be Calvert-Lewin they listen to offers for, according to The Sun. Richarlison is another saleable asset.

Calvert-Lewin hasn’t featured all that much this season having been struggling with a toe injury.

He scored in each of Everton’s first three games. But he then suffered his injury and it’s been a season of struggle ever since for Everton.

He returned to action earlier this year, but hasn’t been able to find the net since coming back.

Everton are under threat from relegation, and could really do with the 25-year-old rediscovering his scoring touch.

It’s going to be interesting to see how things pan out with him.

If Everton happen to go down, he will almost certainly depart.

And it’s possible Newcastle could look to make a move for him, after being linked with him a couple of times since the takeover.

He was mentioned early on as a potential target, and then again in January.

Newcastle should see how Calvert-Lewin fares before making any bid

It is worth Newcastle keeping an eye on 11-cap England international Calvert-Lewin between now and the end of the season.

Since returning he has struggled, and so if those struggles continue, perhaps the Magpies ought to look at other options.

Prior to his injury though, Calvert-Lewin was looking really good for Everton.

He was a real handful and last term was his best ever season.

Everton may need to sell him. But Newcastle shouldn’t be tempted to fork out a huge amount unless he has a big upturn over the next couple of months.
