Newcastle transfer news: Palace want late deal for Conor Gallagher

Chelsea have told Conor Gallagher that he can’t sign for Newcastle United on transfer deadline day, but a move to Crystal Palace might be a different story.

The Magpies are considered a rival by Chelsea, with the Blues unwilling to strengthen Eddie Howe’s side as they look to qualify for the Champions League.

That is a major blow for Newcastle, and could give Crystal Palace the chance to re-sign the 22-year-old. He spent last season on loan at Selhurst Park, and could now make a return.

According to the Telegraph (3.15pm), Patrick Vieira’s side are interested in signing Gallagher on loan for a second time, whose future may depend on Chelsea’s bid to sign Enzo Fernandez.

You would think that would suit Chelsea, given that the Eagles are not challenging them for a place in Europe next season.

However, the Telegraph suggest that is not the case.

Chelsea and Conor Gallagher want permanent transfer

The Telegraph report that Chelsea are only interested in Gallagher leaving Stamford Bridge permanently. They received a big offer from Everton on Monday, but the midfielder said no to a £45million move to Merseyside.

The report adds that Gallagher only wants a permanent move to a top six side or someone that is in the mix to qualify for the Champions League. In short, a transfer to Newcastle would appeal.

But with the clock ticking and money tight, it feels incredibly unlikely that the Magpies will make a permanent offer to sign Gallagher. It is something that was considered and he is a long-term target, but it feels too late in the day for Newcastle to launch a huge offer for the England international.
