Newcastle United are facing competition for Mario Lemina in the form of Cagliari.

The midfielder has emerged as a target for the Serie A side according to Gianluca Di Marzio.

The development comes after reports last week that Newcastle had reservations about signing Lemina because of his age.

Lemina is only 27, but the Daily Mail claimed Mike Ashley was reluctant to meet his £4 million price tag.

Talks have been held over the player, whose contract at Southampton expires next year.

Cagliari’s interest in Lemina may well appeal to the player, who of course, used to play in Italy with Juventus.

He left the Old Lady in 2017 to join the Saints in an £18 million deal (BBC Sport).

Cagliari are hoping to strengthen this summer, as last term they only finished four points above the relegation zone.

Lemina to Cagliari concerning

Newcastle have got get a move on over Lemina.

£4 million is a bargain, and the concerns about his age are just nonsense.

He would make a real difference to Newcastle’s engine room, as he is a good technical player.

Newcastle are said to be on a tight budget, so this is exactly the kind of deal they should be looking to do.
