Newcastle United have been linked with signing Moises Caicedo, and now Brighton have set their asking price for the midfielder. And he isn’t going to be cheap.

According to the Sun, the Seagulls want a fee between £60million and £70million to sell the 21-year-old next month.

That is a huge increase on what he cost them almost two years ago. Caicedo signed for Brighton in February 2021, paying £4.5million to secure his services.

They beat Newcastle in the process, with the Magpies also in the race for the talented Ecuadorian. But it was Dan Ashworth who won the race, bringing Caicedo to the Amex Stadium.

Now Ashworth is at Newcastle, and wants to be reunited with Caicedo. However, he is going to cost a huge sum of money.

A move worth £60million would be more than 13 times what he cost in 2021, seeing Brighton make a profit of more than £50million.

It would be a sensational piece of business by the South Coast side, and it is testament to his performances in the Premier League.

Caicedo made a handful of appearances last season and impressed, and now he is shining in blue and white. He is an important part of Roberto De Zerbi’s midfield, having previously impressed under Graham Potter.

He has previously been described as ‘incredible‘ by teammate Adam Webster, which is why the likes of Newcastle and Manchester United want to sign him.

However, his asking price will likely be a problem for the Magpies.

Brighton asking price makes Moises Caicedo to Newcastle unlikely

With a price tag between £60million and £70million, it surely means that Caicedo isn’t going to be moving to St James’ Park – especially not in January.

It has previously been claimed that Newcastle will not be spending big money next month, which should effectively rule out a move for Caicedo.

While his valuation might drop, it is still going to take significant investment to bring him to Tyneside. And that feels unlikely in January.

Ashworth may want to sign Caicedo for the second time in his career, but it is going to cost a lot of money. Therefore, he would be better served looking for a bargain and trying to find the next Moises Caicedo.

The midfielder is a great example of Ashworth signings seriously flourishing. However, Caicedo has done so well that it will probably price Ashworth out of bringing him to Newcastle.
