Newcastle transfer news: AC Milan and Napoli want Rasmus Hojlund too

Newcastle United are going to face major competition if they try to sign Rasmus Hojlund from Atalanta this summer.

Hojlund was linked with a move to Newcastle last summer, and the rumours are back following an impressive start to life in Italy.

The 20-year-old joined Atalanta last year, and has done well since his arrival in Serie A. Newcastle have continued to track him, with Steve Nickson sending scouts to monitor his progress according to the Chronicle.

It could lead to a move to St James’ Park, with Newcastle reportedly keen to bring him to the Premier League as they target another striker.

However, there are plenty of other clubs also keen on the young Denmark international.

Newcastle face competition for Rasmus Hojlund

According to reports in Italy, Newcastle are not the only club that is hoping to sign Hojlund this summer.

Tutto Atalanta report that Arsenal are also interested, as are AC Milan and Napoli. They believe Hojlund could replace Olivier Giroud and Victor Osimhen respectively.

The report adds that Atalanta will want at least £35million for the youngster, with Newcastle ‘more than ready’ to make the Italian side ‘rich once again’.

Hojlund thriving at international level

£35million would be a lot of money for Newcastle to spend, as whoever arrives will likely play second fiddle to Alexander Isak. There is also Callum Wilson too, who will be keen to win his place back in Eddie Howe’s starting XI.

But Hojlund has a huge amount of potential, and could have a long term future on Tyneside if he makes the move.

He has already improved massively over the past 12 months, and it has led to international recognition. Hojlund is now leading the line for Denmark, and has had a week to remember.

The forward netted a hat-trick in a win over Finland, leading to comparisons to former Newcastle player Jon Dahl Tomasson. Hojlund has since scored two more goals, bagging a brace in a shock defeat to Kazakhstan on Sunday.

Five goals in two games is an incredible achievement, and explains why Newcastle are keen to sign him. The bidding will apparently start at £35million, which is seemingly no problem for the Toon owners.
