Newcastle told ‘superb’ forward will be so expensive this summer – journalist

If Newcastle United want to sign Federico Chiesa from Juventus this summer they’re going to have to ‘break the bank’ to do so.

Newcastle seem to be on a mission to collect the top talent in Italy this summer if reports are to be believed.

One player they definitely have their eye on is Juventus winger Federico Chiesa who impressed for the Italian giants last season.

Chiesa could prove to be too expensive for Newcastle this summer

Chiesa, predominantly a left-winger, played across the front three and even as a second striker for Juventus last season and in his 33 appearances last season scored four goals and laid on six assists.

At first glance those figures don’t jump out as anything impressive, but Chiesa missed a lot of football due to a cruicate ligament injury at the start of the season and as such was mainly a substitute as they managed his recovery. In reality he played around 16 full games in total if you take his minutes and divide by his appearances.

Now journalist Ben Jacobs has told the NUFC Matters Podcast that Newcastle could be priced out of a move and Aston Villa could be the ones to watch when it comes to signing Chiesa saying: “This is a really interesting one because he’s an absolutely superb player first of all.

“Definitely one Newcastle have looked at. I think that it’s probably more likely at this stage that Aston Villa are the ones to watch, because they are pushing a little more aggressively than Newcastle at this point. 

“But Newcastle have looked, for sure, in terms of scouted the players and they have also made an enquiry to look at the terms of the deal as well. 

“But they will learn a lot from the Aston Villa approach because I think Villa have either already made a verbal offer or intimated at the direction that they want to travel and had that deal turned down as this point. 

“If Newcastle want to move on this front they are really going to have to break the bank so that’s why personally I feel this deal is unlikely.”

Newcastle have options on the left so should focus on a right winger

So it doesn’t sound like this one is likely to happen and Villa could land themselves a quality winger.

However, I’m not overly concerned that we’re missing out. While we do need another wide forward this summer, my preference would be for a right-sided winger.

We just spent £45million on Anthony Gordon who plays down the left, Alexander Isak has also proven to be useful in that position too. So a right-sided winger seems more important right now.
