Newcastle target Eden Hazard has spoken about his Real Madrid future

Newcastle United were credited with an interest in Real Madrid’s world-class forward Eden Hazard in January but ultimately nothing became of it.

Hazard has now been frozen out at Madrid after falling out with manager Carlo Ancelotti and the higher-ups at Real.

With his contract due to expire next year, Hazard has now set out what his plans are for next season amid the ‘feud’ with his manager.

Things are far from rosy for Hazard at Madrid

Speaking recently to RTBF, Hazard shed light on his fractured relationship with the former Everton boss: “There is respect between us but I’m not going to say that we talk to each other, because we don’t talk to each other.

“But there will always be respect. Even if tomorrow he doesn’t play me anymore, I have to respect a guy like Ancelotti. What he represents in football, what he has done through his career, there’s no problem.

“For me, I will still be at Real Madrid next season, but you never know. I miss it and I want to play – I want to have fun on a field. Training is good, but what makes us live are the matches. I hope in the depths of my heart that I can bring something and that the coach is still counting on me.”

The former Chelsea man, described by Gary Cahill as ‘unplayable‘ hasn’t kicked a ball for the Spanish giants in La Liga since November where he was given a rare start against Mallorca before being hooked on the hour.

It seems, though, that despite this, Hazard is determined to prove his worth at Real Madrid and hopes to get back into Ancelotti’s plans, but it also sounds like he’s not ruled out a move either.

That could put Newcastle back on alert after The Athletic reported that Newcastle had an interest in the Belgian forward in January but stopped short of making contact with the player. The report also mentions how Hazard has been on the Real Madrid transfer list in the last four windows.

It would be a huge gamble for Newcastle

Now 32, Hazard’s best years are behind him so Newcastle definitely wouldn’t be getting the player who wowed at Chelsea, but class is permanent and maybe as a bit-part player, a back-up to Alexander Isak, he could still do a job in the Premier League.

Given the situation, and the fact that his contract only runs until 2024, it’s unlikely Madrid will be asking for extortionate sums of money, however the player himself could be a different story.

Part of the issue at Madrid is that despite his lack of playing time, he’s still pulling in a hefty wage, so if he is to move this summer he may have to come to terms with a drop in earnings.

Whether Newcastle still see Hazard as an option isn’t yet known, but my gut tells me this will be a non-starter for FFP-fearing Newcastle unless his demands turn out to be much more agreeable.
