Newcastle are still looking to bring competition to the squad on both flanks, and Liverpool’s Ryan Kent is a player Steve Bruce should be trying to bring to St James’ Park.
Jurgen Klopp has made the young winger available at just £7 million, according to Sky Sports and at such a relatively low fee, he could add depth to the squad, while having the potential to flourish and become a star in future years.
After a massively successful year at Ibrox with Rangers, Steven Gerrard was desperate to secure him in Glasgow, but the fee is preventing any deal being made.
But while the fee is too big for Rangers, it should not be a problem for Newcastle, and would undoubtedly be worth the gamble.
Bruce has been credited with an interested in Kent’s teammate Harry Wilson, but with a reported fee of at least £20m needed, it may be Kent who represents better value for money.
Kent’s loan at Rangers was a huge success
Last season Kent scored six goals and had a further six assists in just 23 Scottish Premiership appearances for Gerrard’s side, and there is little doubt he has the talent to make it to the top.
Were it not for the depth of talent at Anfield currently, both Kent and Wilson would be likely to be in Liverpool’s Premier League squad this season, but Bruce should ensure that their loss is Newcastle’s gain.
With time running out before the transfer window shuts, Newcastle certainly need to get deals done quick, and a move for Kent should be one of those.
