Newcastle United undoubtedly need to strengthen their midfield this summer.
The Magpies’ engine room leaves a lot to be desired, and struggled before the arrival of Joe Willock on loan in January.
It’s been suggested that funds, once again, are tight for Newcastle.
As such, officials will probably be on the on the hunt for potential bargains.
One man who should be worth Newcastle’s consideration, is Carles Alena of Barcelona.
Sport have reported today that the midfielder could leave for as a little as £6.8 million.
The player only has a year remaining on his contract according to Transfermarkt.
Interestingly, Marca reported in May 2020 that Newcastle were keen on the star.
A move never materialised, and Alena – way down in the pecking order at the Nou Camp – headed out on loan to Getafe for the 2020/21 season.
Newcastle should be all over Alena
Alena is seemingly someone who needs a change of scenery.
Once tipped to be the future of Barcelona’s midfield, the player now seems to need a change of scenery.
At just £6.8 million, Alena represents an absolute bargain.
He’s someone that could come in and be that midfield metronome Newcastle are currently lacking.
The Magpies need to upgrade on Jonjo Shelvey and technician Alena would be a means of doing that, and on the cheap too.
