Newcastle should consider a move for Hwang Hee-chan in January

Newcastle still need attacking reinforcements in January and one player they should look at his Hwang Hee-chan.

The Red Bull Salzburg forward is being tracked by Arsenal and Crystal Palace, according to the Daily Mail. Newcastle must get in on the act too. While competing with Arsenal is tough, a player wanted by the Eagles should also be attainable for the Magpies.

Crystal Palace desperately need a new striker, so it’s no surprise they want Hwang. While Newcastle aren’t as desperate, they certainly need to add to their offensive ranks.

Joelinton is struggling so far, with just one goal to his name. Behind him you’ve got the ageing Andy Carroll and the injury prone Dwight Gayle. The big issue at Newcastle right now is where are the goals going to come from. In Hwang, we’d have a player who has proven he knows where the back of the net is.

In the Austrian Bundesliga, Hwang has scored five goals in eight games so far this season. And he’s also proven he can score in Europe, netting twice in the Champions League.

His goal at Anfield certainly turned a few heads…and one giant Dutchman. Hwang started the comeback against Liverpool the other week, turning Virgil van Dijk inside out before firing past Adrian. Salzburg would eventually lose 4-3, but they ran the Premier League leaders mightily close.

And what Hwang did was something we rarely see. Ever since he joined Liverpool, Van Dijk has been the immovable object. Barely anyone has sent him the wrong way like Hwang did.

He’s also a creative force, with 10 assists already this season in all competitions.

At 23, he’s the perfect age for Mike Ashley’s Newcastle. Sign him now, and he could be worth double in a few years’ time if he impresses.

If Premier League clubs are going to launch a bid to bring him to England, Newcastle must make sure they’re part of the conversation.
