Newcastle United have reportedly seen an approach for Rostov star Mathias Normann rebuffed.

Journalist Fabrizio Romano claimed yesterday (via Facebook, 18/8 5.05pm) that both the Magpies and newly promoted Norwich City had shown interest in the 25-year-old.

Normann actually had a spell at Brighton a few years ago, but never made an appearance for the first-team.

He left the Seagulls in 2019 to join his current club Rostov.

He’s clocked up 54 appearances for them so far, and has also made his mark with the Norway national side in recent years, accruing seven caps to date.

The holding midfielder has previously been linked with the likes of Burnley, Southampton and Fulham.

Normann has previously expressed his desire to leave Rostov, and it’s possible he could be on the move in the next couple of weeks.

Romano added in his post that he is one to keep an eye on in the last days of the current window.

Normann has actually also been linked with Manchester United in the past.

Red Devils manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has managed him at Molde.

He said of his fellow countryman during their time there (Eurosport.no): “He is a quality player, which he particularly showed in the Tippeliga last year when he showed clear leadership skills.

“He compliments the other midfielders we have in an excellent way.”

One to watch out for?

Newcastle have supposedly been rebuffed by Rostov, but perhaps the club will make another effort to get Normann.

Romano does say that he is one to watch out for.

that the player has previously agitated to leave would suggest a move is not totally out of the question.

The club need to bring in a central defender, but it has been reported Bruce has wanted to revamp his midfield.
