It’s just not a post-PIF-takeover transfer window without Newcastle United being linked in some way to France megastar Kylian Mbappe.
Paris Saint-Germain have a problem in that Kylian Mbappe has informed them that he plans to leave the club when his contract expires next year.
They are faced with the dilemma of keeping hold of him for another year in the hopes that he can be convinced to stay over the next 12 months and risk losing him for free next summer, or cashing in on him now. The latter is going to be a huge issue given the financial implications.
Satin thinks Newcastle are one of three clubs who can afford Mbappe
It’s with that in mind that French agent Bruno Satin has told L’Equipe (via The Daily Mail) that he feels only three clubs could possibly sign Mbappe this year and Newcastle is one of them.
Clearly Mr Satin has forgotten all about Financial Fair Play.

“It’s difficult to give a price for Mbappé,” he told L’Equipe. “A normal club, that is to say not a club-state, will not in my opinion pay £170m today.
“In my opinion, only Manchester City, Newcastle and Real Madrid can pay today. For me, the real price is between £85m and £130m, after which there can be bonuses to go up to £170m or almost.
“If there are few suitors, it is not likely to increase its price’
“There is certainly the length of the contract that comes into play,’ he added. ‘But in the case of a boy like Kylian, it’s not just that. But today, which clubs are likely to welcome him? Not the English in my opinion.
“If they can pay the transfer, they do not give salaries like the one he has in Paris. In general, the highest are around £22m to £27m gross, but the English can compensate with marketing solutions.
“Today, I only see Real. So, if there are few suitors, it is not likely to drive up its price.”
Let’s be honest, it would be nice seeing Mbappe in black and white
Satin clearly feels that Real Madrid is the only realistic option for him, and on that we can agree. However, PSG have just brough in Luis Enrique as manager which could maybe give Mbappe pause for thought.

The FFP ramifications on any deal for Mbappe for Newcastle would render the deal absolutely pointless. It would buckle the club for years if we tried to make that kind of move so soon, but I suppose it’s just too easy to draw that line from the PIF to a high-profile target.
Of course, given that he’s finished as Ligue 1‘s top scorer for the last five seasons, has won a World Cup and is highly regarded as a world-class talent, it would be nice to see Mbappe banging in goals for Newcastle, but surely we aren’t THAT delusional as a fanbase despite what everyone thinks.
