Newcastle retain an interest in young Brazilian Giovani

Brazilian media have claimed that Newcastle United have an interest in Palmeiras winger Giovani but now it seems like Everton have entered the frame.

Newcastle were linked with 19-year-old Giovani in July last year by ESPN Brazil who once again credit the Magpies with an interest in the winger along with Everton.

The report suggests that the level of Everton’s interest will be determined by their Premier League status come the end of the season, but maintain that Newcastle hold an interest in the highly-rated forward, having sent scouts to cast their eye on the forward.

Giovani has a huge release clause in his contract

Giovani is valued at around £13million but has a release clause of around £52million should Newcastle wish to skip the formalities – which is highly unlikely.

Able to play across the front three, he’s been used mostly as a right winger by Palmeiros this season where he’s notched one goal and two assists in 260 minutes of football over 10 outings for the Brazilian side in all competitions.

He’s left-footed but comfortable down the right flank which suits Eddie Howe‘s style as he likes to play with inverted wingers as we’ve seen with the almost solely left-footed Miguel Almiron down the right of Newcastle’s attack.

Dubbed the “Brazilian Sancho” Newcastle could be on to a winner

GOAL reported that Manchester City were also interested in Giovani back in July last year when they dubbed him the “Brazilian Sancho”. Jadon Sancho’s reputation at the time wasn’t amazing as he struggled to settle in at Manchester United, but I’m sure GOAL meant it more complimentary than it seemed.

Acquiring the best young talent is currently Dan Ashworth‘s main focus, so him keeping tabs on a talent like Giovani makes sense, and if his legion of scouts return with a positive review of the youngster, this summer may see Newcastle make a move.

We’ve seen many a player with a stellar reputation as a youngster fail to live up to expectations. Drawing comparisons with renowned players adds an extra level of pressure, too, so Newcastle will have to be extra diligent when it comes to players like Giovani as sometimes the hype is more than the player can deliver.

If Newcastle’s scouts deem Giovani as the kind of player who could adapt to the English game, he’d be in good hands at Newcastle as our academy set up continues to develop. More importantly though, he’ll have Bruno Guimaraes and Joelinton to help him settle into the area.
