Hoffenheim must love Newcastle right now.
We paid the German club £40million for Joelinton in the summer, and reports suggest they want to send some more money their way.
According to Sport Bild, the Magpies are looking at Hoffenheim midfielder Florian Grillitsch. He has an affordable release clause of £21million, about half a Joelinton if you like.
The report adds that Southampton and Arsenal are keen as well.
The Austrian operates in the centre of midfield, an area where we definitely need more quality. That’s what Nabil Bentaleb was supposed to add, but the early signs aren’t promising.
Grillitsch seems to be more of a defensive player, dictating play from deep whilst also protecting the defence. Think Isaac Hayden but with more quality on the ball.
And if we do sign the 24-year-old, he already has a friend at St James’ Park. Grillitsch played with the Brazilian last season, ending the year ninth in the Bundesliga.
Could a former teammates arrival boost Joelinton? I mean, he couldn’t get any worse…could he?
