Newcastle United aren’t the only team with issues up front. This weekend’s opponents Crystal Palace are far from blessed with top quality strikers either.

But one player who the Eagles let leave on loan is thriving away from Selhurst Park.

Alexander Sorloth joined Trabzonspor in the summer and is flying. The Norwegian has scored 17 league goals this season, almost averaging a goal every game.

And his great form has reportedly attracted interest from St James’ Park. According to Turkish outlet Fotospor, the Magpies are set to send scouts to watch the striker, with Brighton and Monaco also interested.

But is Sorloth the answer to our problems?

While he has been excellent in Turkey, his brief stint in the England was rather forgettable.

Sorloth has played 16 times in the Premier League for Crystal Palace, failing to score a single goal. Even Joelinton has one…

The 24-year-old is enjoying the most prolific spell of his career, but it could easily just be a purple patch.

There are no guarantees that he would carry on this form in the Premier League.

And when you look at Palace’s attacking options, they surely would have kept Sorloth if they thought he was better than what they’ve already got.

Considering the report is from Turkey, it shouldn’t be taken as gospel. But if Newcastle do have eyes on Sorloth, hopefully they think twice before making a move.
