Newcastle United are being linked with a transfer for Kasper Dolberg.

According to French outlet Homme du Match, the Magpies have sounded out the Norway striker as a potential January addition.

It comes amid continued talk that Unai Emery is set to become the club’s new manager.

Dolberg currently plays his football with French side Nice, where he has been since the summer of 2019.

The 24-year-old has made a decent start to the current campaign. So far, he has bagged three goals in seven appearances.

That said, the last of those goals came against Nantes back in mid-September.

It was at Ajax where Dolberg made his name.

For the Dutch giants, he scored 45 goals in 119 games. He also made 16 assists.

Fans will also remember how Dolberg stood out for Denmark at Euro 2020 this summer. He hit three goals at the tournament, with two coming against Wales, one of which was a rocket from the edge of the box.

Interestingly, this transfer link comes a few years after there were reports Rafa Benitez had sent scouts to watch Dolberg play for Ajax (Chronicle, March 2017).

He was also previously called ‘a fantastic player’ by Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp (via Sky Sports, February 2017).

Dolberg could suit the Premier League

This is an interesting claim.

Newcastle undoubtedly need a bit more firepower, with Callum Wilson in need of a bit of help up top.

Dolberg would provide something different for the Magpies.

His 6ft 4in frame allows him to be a target man whom players can work around.

It would be a slight risk given he had a slightly underwhelming campaign last season, but his game could be well suited to the Physical Premier League.
