Newcastle are struggling to find goals this season, as they have still not managed to score more than one in any game so far, and it is a huge worry for Steve Bruce.

Joelinton has only scored once this season, while Miguel Almiron’s struggles have been well documented, so a report linking them with Lille’s exciting striker Victor Osimhen shoulod excite Toon fans.

The Chronicle report Newcastle have the Nigerian forward “in their sights”, as the club aim to keep their love affair with the French league going for another transfer window.

The goal-scorer has certainly been on the move a lot recently, with the former Wolfsburg striker having a loan spell at Charleroi in Belgium, before completing permanent deal for the Belgian side in July.

But a month later, he signed for Ligue 1 Lille for £10.8 million, which saw Charleroi making a profit on the player in mere weeks.

Since his move to France, Osimhen has certainly made an impact, with him scoring a spectacular seven goals in just 10 league starts. He also scored against Chelsea in the Champions League earlier this month.

So if Newcastle firm up their interest and make a move for the African player, they will be getting someone who knows how to find the net.

Osimhen would allow Bruce to play with two genuine strikers

It would also help Steve Bruce play with an extra body up top, and give record signing Joelinton a foil to play alongside.

But Lille are currently sixth in Ligue 1, and in the group stages of the Champions League, so whether he would contemplate leaving that for a relegation tussle with Newcastle is debatable.

But as ever, money talks in football, and the wages on offer in the Premier League, more often than not, dwarf those salaries on offer in the French top division – PSG is an obvious outlier – so with a lucrative enough offer, it could have his agents interested.

One way or another, Newcastle need to solve their goal-scoring woes, and if that means pushing the boat out for yet another striker in January, then it is a risk Mike Ashley and Lee Charnley simply have to take.

Without goals, you will not win games. And if Newcastle do not start winning games more frequently, they will be heading for the Championship.

So the possibility of signing a player like Osimhen should have fans excited, and hopeful that there is still life in the club’s Premier League survival fight.
