Newcastle United are reportedly willing to pay the £35million release clause to bring Celta Vigo midfielder Gabri Veiga to the Premier League this summer.

Gabri Veiga has been in Newcastle‘s crosshairs for a while now with reports linking Newcastle with an interest starting in March. A report from AS‘ transfer specialist Manu Sainz claiming that Newcastle were the first club to make the move to watch Veiga in action earlier this season.

For a long time now, a move to the Premier League has looked likely for Veiga in the summer and Sainz has said that Newcastle are ‘willing to pay’ the £35million release clause in his Celta Vigo contract which expires in 2026.

Arsenal could be leading the way to land Veiga this summer

Liverpool are also interested in Veiga and Arsenal have also been keeping tabs on the ‘amazing‘ midfielder who has managed nine goals and four assists from 35 appearances this season.

Should Arsenal progress their interest into a bid it’s likely they’ll be the club to beat as Veiga has spoken of his desire to play for the Gunners in the past.

The fact that Veiga has that release clause, which for a player of his potential is pretty low, means that interested clubs can bypass the club negotiation phase by just offering Celta the £35million and then it all becomes about offering the best deal to the player.

Again, Arsenal will have the advantage with Veiga already reportedly keen on a move, but that doesn’t mean Newcastle’s efforts will be futile.

The Magpies already have some exciting players to entice the likes of Veiga to St James’ Park and there will be more to come this summer, so Dan Ashworth and/or Eddie Howe could sell Veiga on the promise of there being more stars to play alongside.

Newcastle still have plenty to offer the 20-year-old Celta Vigo ace

Newcastle will also be able to offer Champions League football unless something goes drastically wrong in the last four games of the season.

At only 20-years-old Veiga is still raw and can be moulded into another Eddie Howe success story, but given his exploits for Celta this season, he could be first-team ready when he arrives unlike other young players the club have signed who have been put into the reserves to develop.

Whoever lands Veiga in the summer is getting a bargain even if they end up having to stump up the entirety of his release clause. Fingers crossed it’s Newcastle.
