Rudi Galetti has provided an update on the summer transfer duel between Newcastle United and Liverpool as the two sides look set to lock horns again over Khephren Thuram.
The Italian journalist took to Twitter today to provide an update on the Khephren Thuram situation with Newcastle and Liverpool both very keen on the France international.
OGC Nice are bracing themselves for offers from the Premier League for Thuram and Rudi Galetti believes it’s Newcastle or Liverpool who could make the first move saying: “Liverpool are speeding things up for Khephren Thuram.
Liverpool want to close the gap with Newcastle making moves
“LFC want to close the gap with Nice soon to anticipate the competition of NUFC which are starting to move concretely for the French player: evolving situation.”
Khephren Thuram has been on Newcastle’s radar for a while with early reports suggesting the Magpies wanted him and his brother Marcus, who has now joined Inter Milan.

Thuram could cost over £50m which puts him in the unlikely category
Valued at £52million, any move for Thuram is unlikely to be cheap if Newcastle are indeed still interested as he plays in a similar position to incoming Sandro Tonali.

Having lost Dominik Szoboszlai to the Reds I’m sure Newcastle fans would love the idea of getting one over on Liverpool in the market this summer, but my gut feeling is that Khephren Thuram isn’t as much of a priority as he once was thanks to the Tonali coup.
However, the fact that Galetti seems so confident, there may still be something to it. He’d unquestionably be a good signing, but is it a position we’re still looking at? I’m not convinced.
