Newcastle United had scouts at Wembley for the Championship Play-Off final keeping tabs on Swedish international Viktor Gyokeres of Coventry.

A report in The Daily Mail has now linked Newcastle with a move for £25million rated forward Viktor Gyokeres from Coventry.

The Sky Blues missed out on promotion to the Premier League after losing on penalties against Luton Town at Wembley on Saturday and could now be at risk of losing their star man.

Newcastle are one of several clubs looking at Gyokeres

Leeds United and Brentford had previously been credited with an interest in Gyokeres but now Newcastle could be looking to get in ahead of them.

Newcastle have a not-so-secret weapon in Gyokeres’ international teammate Alexander Isak who could help persuade the 24-year-old to make the switch to Tyneside.

Isak and Gyokeres have linked up previously playing for Sweden and the £63million man was quoted as saying (via HITC): “It was good. It is very nice to play with such a player, one who wins all his duels. He did excellently. It made it easier for me, that I could find my areas.”

It sounds like a match made in heaven already, and at £25million it could be a superb move by Newcastle. They can pick themselves up a player already accustomed to the English game, he already has a pre-existing partnership with our star man and would cost a fraction of other top strikers.

That would leave plenty more money in the kitty to spend on other areas that need strengthening.

At just £25million Gyokeres looks like the perfect signing

Gyokeres has bagged 21 goals and provided 10 assists in 46 games in the Championship for Coventry this season showing that he definitely knows where the goal is.

I can’t believe Newcastle could pick up ‘unbelievable‘ Gyokeres for just £25million, it seems like a total no-brainer. Not every signing we make this season has to be a world-beater, some just need to add depth and provide quality when needed.

While this signing wouldn’t get the Geordies flocking to the stadium to see him arrive, it would be a great bit of business.
