Newcastle United are still keeping an eye on Villarreal winger Samuel Chukwueze while AC Milan stall over a move due to his asking price.
According to Italian journalist Rudi Galetti, Newcastle are still keen on rapid winger Samuel Chukwueze despite AC Milan currently leading the race for the Nigerian who has a year left on his Villarreal contract.
The 24-year-old was named as the fastest player he’d ever shared the pitch with by former Arsenal man Santi Cazorla in a La Liga Q&A for Instagram (via The Boot Room).
Samuel Eto’o said Chukwueze is an incredible player
On top of that praise, Nigeria legend Samuel Eto’o called him an ‘incredible player’ when talking to GOAL in 2020, but did say he needs to score more goals.
Newcastle might not be so put off by Chukwueze’s €30million (£25million) valuation and could leapfrog Milan in the race for his signature, especially now that it looks as if Dominik Szoboszlai is Liverpool-bound.

Chukwueze made 50 appearances for Villarreal in all competitions last season scoring 13 goals and providing 11 assists which should put Samuel Eto’o’s past fears to rest.
Newcastle could certainly do with another option down the right flank despite Miguel Almiron and Jacob Murphy‘s rise to form last season and Chukwueze’s stats suggest he’d be ideal.
Newcastle need to improve the right side of their attack and Chukwueze could be ideal
Both Miggy and Murphy did well last season but it would be crazy not to improve in that area of the pitch as neither player is renowned for their consistency, so bringing in Chukwueze could benefit everybody.

Chukwueze’s FBref stats back up his goals and assist figures too with him in the top three percent of players across the top five leagues for successful take-ons. He’s also within the top 20% for many other attacking metrics including progressive carries and attacking touches in the box.
He sounds like someone who fits Newcastle’s needs perfectly and could now be closer to the top of the wish list after pulling out of the Szoboszlai deal.
