Given Newcastle United’s recent injury woes, it is clear that Eddie Howe needs another striker.
He already has two top class centre-forwards to pick from, with Alexander Isak and Callum Wilson starting the season brightly.
But they have both been hindered by injuries, meaning Newcastle have been without their two top marksmen.
Eddie Howe has been forced to improvise. We have seen Anthony Gordon play up front and do well at times, while Joelinton even got a run out there during the 2-0 defeat to Bournemouth. That was much less successful.
Newcastle have also turned to youth, with Ben Parkinson being given his senior debut at the age of 18. He is clearly a talented prospect, but it is far too early to ask him to provide cover for players of Isak and Wilson’s calibre.
That is why the Magpies are considering signing a new striker in 2024, and a new report from Germany has provided Toon fans with a new target to consider.
Newcastle interested in signing Marvin Ducksch
According to German journalist Christian Falk, Newcastle are interested in signing Werder Bremen forward Marvin Ducksch.
The reporter states that the 29-year-old’s contract with the Bundesliga club runs until 2026.

Surely Newcastle will not bid for the 29-year-old
This is a rather strange rumour given the other forwards Newcastle have been linked with. The Magpies have been looking more towards the future with a younger player, which is why there have been rumours surrounding Hugo Ekitike and Marcos Leonardo.
But Ducksch is at the opposite end of the spectrum. While 29 is far from old, he is much older than the other players Newcastle have been linked with.
The Germany international is a late bloomer, enjoying his best ever Bundesliga season last time out with 12 goals.
He has started the new campaign brightly too, scoring five in the league and one in the cup. The forward has also registered four assists, meaning he has got 10 goal contributions already this season.
That is a very impressive tally. For context, that is more than Alexander Isak has got. He has seven goals to his name, while he is yet to provide an assist this season.
But while his recent numbers are good, it would be a huge surprise if Newcastle did make a move for Ducksch. He would only be a short-term solution, nor does he appear to be at the elite level we are looking for.
Neither do the likes of Leonardo or Ekitike, but they at least have the potential to hit those heights. The same can’t be said for 29-year-old Marvin Ducksch, who has hit double figures in the Bundesliga just once in his career.
