Newcastle United may have got themselves back into the lead when it comes to the race for James Maddison’s signature this summer.

As the season draws to a close the transfer rumour mill is spinning up into top gear and that means many, many stories linking James Maddison with a move away from Leicester City with several clubs chasing the signature of the England playmaker.

Tottenham were said to be leading the race recently, but now Newcastle may have turned the tide yet again.

Maddison has been ‘wowed’ by the atmosphere and culture at Newcastle

CBS journalist Ben Jacobs told GiveMeSport: “I think that James Maddison has been at St. James’s Park and has been quite wowed by the atmosphere, the culture and Newcastle are flying, so they do stand a very realistic possibility.

“I’ve always said many times, because Newcastle’s interest in Maddison dates back to last summer, it will only be this summer when Maddison goes. If Leicester go down, it will obviously be definite and there’ll be a tremendous deal to be had.

“But I think even if they stay up, I expect Maddison to leave Leicester regardless.”

The Telegraph have also stated that Newcastle will be going back with another attempt to sign Maddison this summer so all signs are pointing North for the £60million-rated Leicester man right now.

Newcastle don’t mind waiting to make a deal if they feel it is right

I has been another long-running transfer saga that Newcastle have been involved in, but the club do not mind biding their time when it comes to transfers if they believe the player is the right fit. They were willing to wait it out for Sven Botman and that move could hardly have turned out any better.

Maddison had three Newcastle players in his ear during the World Cup telling him why he should sign for Newcastle and I doubt those words have been forgotten.

Now with the admission that he has been blown away by the St James’ Park atmosphere and culture, you have to think that his mind is pretty much made up at this point.

I’ve been confident on James Maddison before, though, so I’m trying to play it cool this time and not get carried away. But he’s coming, isn’t he? James Daniel Maddison will be a Newcastle United player next season. Please?
