Newcastle now face competition from Man United for ‘dangerous’ £65m forward this summer

Jadon Sancho looks to be on his way out of Manchester United and the Red Devils have a long-term Newcastle United target in mind to be his replacement.

Former England international Jadon Sancho’s career has taken a nosedive since he moved to Manchester United. He’s lost his place in the England squad with very little fuss made about it and now it looks like Erik ten Hag is ready to cut his losses and let him move with Tottenham willing to offer £50million.

Now the Daily Mail are suggesting that if Man United can shift Sancho they will look to replace him with Bayer Leverkusen‘s Moussa Diaby.

Newcastle still hold an interest in Diaby

Newcastle are long-term admirers of Diaby and his was the name that we saw almost daily last summer as it was widely believed that the Magpies were ready to bag their man, however Leverkusen couldn’t be moved on their £60million fee and Newcastle wouldn’t move on their £50million valuation.

That saga continues to this day, although now the Daily Mail claims Leverkusen will want £65million for the ‘dangerous‘ forward.

While Newcastle are still keen, they have moved on to other targets and will only likely revisit Diaby if other moves don’t come off. If Eddie Howe finally gets James Maddison over the line then it’s highly unlikely that any further moves will be made for Diaby.

Missing out on Diaby is one thing but to lose him to Man United…?

That would leave the door open for Manchester United to swoop in, but they will still face plenty of competition from elsewhere. Arsenal are also admirers, and there will be many other clubs looking at him too such is his reputation.

It’s going to be a bitter pill to swallow if Diaby does go to Manchester United after Newcastle fans have had their hopes up regarding a move for so long. It’ll be bad enough that we missed out on him but for him to go to Man United of all clubs? That’s going to sting.
