Newcastle United are amongst a host of European clubs keeping an eye on teenage Argentinian sensation Valentin Barco from Boca Juniors.
How do you know what a young South American has true potential in 2023? If Brighton and Hove Albion are interested.
Brighton are said to be in pole position to land Valentin Barco who has broke into the Boca Juniors first teem and caught the eye of many European clubs. Newcastle have been named as one of those clubs by 90mins who claim that Boca Juniors are desperate to get Barco to sign a new deal removing his £8million release clause.
Valentin Barco is a versatile left-back, something Howe loves
The 19-year-old has played primarily at left-back for Boca Juniors but has also played right down that left side of the pitch. That versatility is something that Dan Ashworth and Eddie Howe look for in young stars.
Newcastle have of course just picked up a young, versatile left-back in Lewis Hall who is yet to make his debut for the club, that doesn’t rule out a move for Barco as both he and Hall could battle for their place for years to come.

The report on 90mins says that Brighton are already in talks to bring Barco to the South Coast in 2024 meaning Newcastle, and one of the many other clubs, would have some catching up to do if they’re serious about making a move.
Barco has already made 19 appearances this season in Argentina and bagged one goal along with two assists.
Boca board member said that they’ve received no approach for Barco
He looks like a top class player already but with Brighton allegedly so far along in negotiations it already looks unlikely that Barco will be making the move to Newcastle.

Although, Boca board member Marcelo Delgado said at the weekend that the Buenos Aires giants are looking at a new deal for Barco, telling D Sports Radio (via 90mins): “Barco has a contract with us. At the moment, we have not received any proposal for him. We are thinking about improving the contract for Valentin.”
So there’s still hope for the Magpies.
