Newcastle may have accidentally helped Chelsea as they pursue Brighton midfielder Moises Caicedo, because of the signing of Tino Livramento.
Livramento is set to join for around £30m from Southampton, but a huge sell-on clause in his contract saw Chelsea earn a significant figure from the transfer.
Chelsea are attempting to sign Caicedo, who Newcastle were also linked with earlier this summer, but are struggling in negotiations with Brighton, who are holding out for a potentially record-breaking fee.
However, South American outlet El Universo have now reported that the $17m (£13.3m) Chelsea have received as part of the Livramento deal can help them raise their bid to land Caicedo this summer.
Will Newcastle regret this?
Although Newcastle were also interested in Caicedo earlier this summer, the signing of Sandro Tonali meant they were no longer in the hunt for the midfielder, and given the potential finances involved in a deal for him, it seems highly unlikely that they would have pursued him further.

That being said, inadvertently helping Chelsea land him could mean that a top-four rival significantly strengthens their squad this summer, and this will provide extra competition for Newcastle in the Premier League next season.
However, Newcastle have landed a key target in Livramento and strengthened their own squad, which will have been a much bigger priority than worrying about strengthening Chelsea as a result. It is now down to Newcastle to get the best out of Livramento to justify the fee spent on bringing him in.
Given his injury issues over the last few seasons, it is something of a risk to sign Livramento for such a big fee, but if he can return to his best form, then he could become a key player at Newcastle for years to come.
