It had been reported by the Daily Mail that Newcastle had lodged a £1.5 million offer for the player, who spent last season on loan at Sunderland.

According to journalist Chris Waugh on Twitter, Newcastle did submit an offer for the 21-year-old.

But it was deemed ‘derisory’ by his club Wolverhampton Wanderers.

There will be no chance for Newcastle to land Sanderson now. He has officially moved to Birmingham City on loan for the 2021/22 season.

The Blues have won the race for the talented youngster, who is back for another spell in the Championship after playing for Cardiff City in 2019/20.

Newcastle’s search for a new central defender continues.

Florian Lejeune is reportedly on the brink of joining Deportivo Alaves permanently.

The Frenchman will need replacing. The club have also been linked with the likes of Nat Phillips and Tosin Adarabioyo.

‘Derisory’ offer will surprise no one

Newcastle’s offer for Sanderson being deemed derisory doesn’t come as any surprise.

The Magpies are said to be working with a very tight budget this summer.

It’s likely more lowball offers will follow, unless a takeover miraculously comes to fruition before the end of the current transfer window.
