Newcastle United are hoping to expand their recruitment under Paul Mitchell.

The Newcastle United sporting director was recently critical of the club’s transfer policy before his arrival, which resulted in Eddie Howe defending the signings he made.

However, there is an acceptance that Newcastle United need to take a more global approach to signing players. That is the only way that the Magpies are going to find true value, as we saw this summer that domestic players like Marc Guehi will cost an absolute fortune.

It has been reported that Eddie Howe backs Paul Mitchell’s new recruitment plan, and it will be interesting to see the lengths he goes to in an attempt to bring reinforcements to St James’ Park.

Newcastle United looking at Jamaican defender

That search could take Newcastle United to Jamaica, as HITC Football insider Graeme Bailey has told Geordie Boot Boys that the Magpies are one of the Premier League clubs that have their eye on Richard King, a 22-year-old centre-back who plays in the Jamaica Premier League.

“Richard King is a very highly rated player,” he said.

“A lot of teams are looking at him, including Newcastle United and West Ham United.

“He’s playing for Jamaica and would be available very cheaply. I’m told he is a very interesting prospect that is emerging.”

Who is Richard King?

As Bailey says, Newcastle and West Ham are both taking a look at King, who he believes could be available for a rather cheap fee.

King is a 22-year-old right-footed centre-back who has won 19 caps for Jamaica. He currently plays in his home country for Cavalier, while in 2023 he had a loan spell with Icelandic club IBV.

The defender is 6ft1in tall, which makes him a similar height to Fabian Schar.

Newcastle United looking far and wide for new recruits

King would be an interesting addition to the Newcastle United squad, if Paul Mitchell were to make a move.

The fact he is 22-years-old and has not been picked up by a big club in Europe would be slightly concerning, but that is not to say he would not be able to develop into a Premier League player.

Whether or not Newcastle actually make a move remains to be seen, but it is interesting to see how far the Magpies’ scouting stretches.

Newcastle are also about to do some business in Georgia. It has been reported that Newcastle are set to sign Vakhtang Salia from Dinamo Tbilisi, who is a 17-year-old attacker that can play on the left wing or up front.
