In League One, League Two and across Europe, today is transfer deadline day. And Newcastle United have been getting involved.
After the Magpies announced their 25-man Premier League squad, it was clear that a few players would be needing to leave the club.
And that’s exactly what has happened. Rolando Aarons has gone on loan to League One Wycombe Wanderers, while Achraf Lazaar has gone back to Italy. The Moroccan has signed a season-long loan deal with Serie B side Cosenza Calcio.
With the transfer window already shut for Premier League clubs, Aarons and Lazaar had limited options. Therefore, they’ve had to take a step down the footballing ladder in order to play.
There has also been some movement for former Newcastle players. Vurnon Anita left the Magpies in 2017 after winning promotion, signing for Leeds United on a free. Initially he looked like a handy little signing for the Yorkshire side, but he’s been the complete opposite.
Anita made 18 Championship appearances in his first season, but the arrival of Marcelo Bielsa was the beginning of the end. Last season was spent on loan at Willem II and now he’s officially been released despite having just under a year to run on his contract.
Kenedy is another former Magpie on the move. The Brazilian had two loan spells at St James’ Park, but one was a lot better than the other.
The Chelsea lad was shocking in black and white last season, and is now reportedly heading to Spain. According to Sky Sports, he’s having a medical at Getafe ahead of another loan.
