Wigan defender Antonee Robinson had a January transfer deadline day to forget.
The defender flew to Italy to secure a move to AC Milan, but ended the day still playing for a club competing at the wrong end of the Championship.
The 22-year-old’s £10million move was one of the big talking points on January 31st, but Milan ran out of time to complete the deal, forcing Robinson to return to England.
But when one door closes, another opens. According to the Daily Mirror, Newcastle are one of three Premier League clubs interested in the young left-back. Chelsea and Aston Villa are the other two clubs named.
Robinson came through Everton’s academy but left permanently in 2019. Despite being born in Milton Keynes, he represents United States at international level because of his father, boasting seven caps.
Would Robinson be a good fit at Newcastle? His lack of Premier League experience would certainly be a worry, but he has time on his side unlike Matt Ritchie and loanee Danny Rose.
Then there’s also Jetro Willems waiting to see what his future holds in the background.
With multiple teams seemingly interested in Robinson, this sounds like a deal that Newcastle probably won’t complete.
The Magpies have a few options on the left side of defence, so a move for Robinson seems unlikely.
