Newcastle are after another midfielder this month, and their search has taken them to France.
According to the Daily Mail, the Magpies have enquired about signing Wylan Cyprien from Nice, with Tottenham also keen.
The report claims that the 24-year-old is valued at around £20 million, which would make him one of Newcastle’s most expensive players ever.
Steve Bruce will reportedly ask Mike Ashley to sanction another big deal like he did last January for Miguel Almiron, and Cyprien certainly fits the bill.
While competing with Tottenham won’t be easy, Newcastle might have an advantage with Spurs already set to sign another midfielder – Gedson Fernandes.
If Cyprien does move to St James’ Park, he’ll already have a friend there. Allan Saint-Maximin played alongside the midfielder for two seasons, so the pair should already have an understanding.
Newcastle need extra quality in midfield, as there’s a distinct lack of creativity. But Cyprian has proven at Nice that he knows where the back of the net is, and he’d certainly be a welcome addition on Tyneside.
