According to The Telegraph, Jordon Ibe will undergo a medical at Derby County ahead of joining the Rams on a two-year deal.

The news comes weeks after Newcastle were linked with the ex-Liverpool man in a report from the Sunday Mirror (30/8; page 67), which also said that Crystal Palace were keen.

Ibe has struggled at Bournemouth following a £15 million move from Liverpool in 2016.

The 24-year-old scored just five goals in 92 appearances for the Cherries, and played only 48 minutes in the Premier League last season.

The Telegraph state that he is looking to resurrect his career after being hit with a driving ban, and also suffering with his mental health.

Given his struggles on the field in recent years, this doesn’t feel like a huge transfer blow for the Magpies.

We already have Allan Saint-Maximin, Ryan Fraser and Miguel Almiron to play on the wing, but there is no denying that there is a player in Ibe somewhere.

After all, Jurgen Klopp once described him as a ‘big, big talent’ following a win over Bournemouth back in 2016.

The Irish Times quote the German as saying: ‘Only a few young players can come up, and sometimes they are in the squad, sometimes not. He’s still a brilliant, big, big talent which is very good for English football.’

For the sake of his career, we hope the Englishman can rediscover his best form at Pride Park.

Who knows? If he does well, then perhaps Steve Bruce and Lee Charnley will resurrect their interest in him later down the line.
