Newcastle United look to have secured the signing of exciting youth prospect Trevan Sanusi.

Journalist Fabrizio Romano, reporting on his Twitter page, has stated that a deal to take Trevan Sanusi from Birmingham City to Newcastle United is “official, completed.” However, an official announcement from Newcastle is yet to be made, at the time of writing.

As reported by Chronicle Live, Arsenal, Liverpool, Manchester United, and Chelsea were all also keen on snapping up Sanusi for their own academy systems. However, Newcastle have won the race and the 16-year-old is now on his way to St James’ Park.

Birmingham City boss John Eustace will certainly be sad to see Sanusi go. As quoted by Chronicle Live, he described the England under-16 international as a “really exciting young attacking player.”

Newcastle looking to the future

Newcastle seem to be building for the future with the arrival of Sanusi. He is a long way from being ready to feature in the first team under Eddie Howe, but the Magpies boss will still be keeping a keen eye on his development.

Howe has shown a willingness to give youth a chance in his tenure at Newcastle with the likes of Elliot Anderson and Lewis Miley emerging into the first team picture. Sansui will be heading to Tyneside with a view to following the pathway they took.

This signing also represents something of a coup for Newcastle, given the calibre and pedigree of the other Premier League clubs who held an interest in the youngster. This is a move that demonstrates that St James’ Park is a place that young players see as somewhere they want to be, and that the club is on the up.

As for Sanusi, the young winger will now have to earn his place at the top of the pile of Newcastle’s most exciting academy talents.
