Newcastle United could reportedly swoop in if Tottenham Hotspur decide against signing Dejan Kulusevski permanently this summer.

Spurs have the option to sign Kulusevski from Juventus, with his 18-month loan deal set to come to an end. They would have been obligated to buy him if they had finished in the top four, but that did not happen. Instead, they finished as low as eighth.

Tottenham still have the option to sign the Swedish playmaker, and it has been reported that is exactly what Spurs intend to do.

However, Newcastle are on standby if not.

Newcastle interested in Dejan Kulusevski

According to Football Transfers, Newcastle are looking to sign a right winger this summer, and Kulusevski is on their radar. The report states that the Magpies are monitoring the 23-year-old’s situation to see if Spurs take up their option to buy him permanently.

With other reports stating that Tottenham plan to do just that, it feels unlikely that Newcastle will get the chance to tempt Kulusevski to Tyneside.

And that is a huge shame, as we could have given him the chance to play alongside international teammate Alexander Isak.

Kulusevski loves playing alongside Isak

Both Isak and Kulusevski play for Sweden, and are due to play alongside each other in the upcoming Euro 2024 qualifiers.

The Newcastle forward would no doubt relish the chance to play regularly alongside Kulusevski, who has previously spoke glowingly about the Magpies’ record signing.

“He’s good at everything. Good at combining, he is fast. He is good at winning nick duels as we saw today. He is very easy to play with,” Kulusevski previously said about Isak.

The duo would be able to strike up an immediate partnership on Tyneside, which could make Eddie Howe’s attack even more devastating.

Kulusevski has been brilliant in the Premier League ever since his arrival, boasting seven goals and 15 assists since joining Tottenham. It has led to Graeme Souness calling him ‘De Bruyne-esque‘, which is astonishingly high praise.

He would be a hit if he moved to Newcastle, but it feels like he is going to stay at Tottenham.
