Newcastle United’s scouts have been paying close attention to the Turkish league this season and will tonight cast an eye over Arda Guler and Ferdi Kadioglu of Fenerbahce as they take on Istanbulspor.

A report from A Spor in Turkey has said that Newcastle will have scouts in attendance at the match between Fenerbahce and Istanbulspor tonight with Arda Guler and Ferdi Kadioglu being the main points of focus for the talent spotters.

Arda Guler’s name has popped up before with Newcastle connected and the youngster has been identified as one of the world’s best youngsters by NXGN.

‘The Turkish Messi’

The 18-year-old has two goals and two assists in the Super Lig this season from just 14 appearances from an attacking midfield position. He’s also been deployed in a centre-mid role as well as on the right wing.

As the NXGN write up states, Guler has been dubbed ‘The Turkish Messi’ which isn’t a bad name to have, but the paragraph saying: “The youngest goalscorer in the club’s history, Arda possesses a dribbling ability and close control that few can match, while his eye for the spectacular has always marked him out as a special talent,” is what really stands out.

He definitely sounds like an exciting prospect and if Newcastle were to make their move it’s likely they’ll want to put him in the development squad with Harrison Ashby and Garang Kuol as ones for the future. That approach makes sense but it could also be an issue when it comes to trying to prise him away from from Fenerbahce where he’s already broken into the first team.

Newcastle could land Guler and Kadioglu for £40million

Also on Newcastle’s agenda is 23-year-old Ferdi Kadioglu who is named as a right-back but has found himself playing several different positions for Fenerbahce this season. He’s played 26 times and scored one goal and provided three assists. He’s been used as right and left back as well as right and left midfield, so he’s clearly blessed with versatility.

Both players have represented the Turkish side in Europe this season which is an advantage as Newcastle will be looking to add players with Champions League experience to the squad this summer.

The report suggests that Fenerbache would be looking for around £40million for the duo but doesn’t explain how that figure is split between the two players.

For me, Guler sounds like he’d be a brilliant signing, very exciting, attack-minded with plenty of skill and a penchant for a screamer. He’s my kind of player.

With regards to Kadioglu I’d say we have other targets in mind for his position that would be a better fit for the Magpies. Particularly Kieran Tierney and Alex Grimaldo.
