Newcastle have reportedly knocked on the door for Divock Origi

Newcastle United are said to have made enquiries about Liverpool striker Divock Origi.

Corriere dello Sport have reported that the Magpies are one of several sides to have ‘knocked on the door’ for the Belgian, who is struggling for game time at Anfield.

Origi is firmly behind Roberto Firmino, Mo Salah and Sadio Mane in the pecking order, and is expected to depart either in January or at the end of the season.

He is a hugely popular figure at the club given his heroics in the Champions League in the 2018/19 season, but minutes are just so hard to come by.

Corriere say Inter want to sign him, but add Newcastle, Wolves, Brighton, Aston Villa and Schalke have all asked about his availability.

Steve Bruce is believed to want to bring in some extra firepower in January to help ease the burden on Callum Wilson.

But it remains to be seen whether the Magpies will be capable of pulling off a deal.

A loan may have to do

A report from the Telegraph has claimed there will be no money for Bruce to spend in January, and so Newcastle may have to look into loaning him if a deal is to be done.

He could potentially be a decent addition for Newcastle.

The 25-year-old, who cost the Reds £10 million back in 2014 (BBC Sport) – will be raring to show he can still cut it in the Premier League if given the chance, and St. James’ Park could be the new lease of life he needs.
