Reports are starting to come out now suggesting that Newcastle United have agreed terms with France youngster Axel Disasi.

It now sounds like Newcastle have ironed out personal terms with 25-year-old Axel Disasi after agreeing that he will get plenty of minutes next season.

Newcastle now just need to agree terms with Disasi’s club, Monaco according to a report by Football Transfers.

Newcastle look to have beaten Manchester United to Axel Disasi

The 6’3″ defender is also wanted by Manchester United, but it looks like Newcastle are going to beat them to the punch.

Disasi was an ever-present for Monaco last season and even popped up with three goals and three assists from his 38 appearances and it’s with that in mind that Disasi needed assurances that he wouldn’t just be a bit-part player at his new club if he were to leave Monaco.

It sounds like Newcastle have agreed Disasi will be given plenty of time to impress, and could be dropped in as Sven Botman‘s defensive partner in place of Fabian Schar.

Football Talent Scout – Jacek Kulig posted a profile of Disasi on Twitter in 2020, saying he’s a ‘complete and dominant’ defender in the mould of Virgil Van Dijk. He then followed his profile up by saying: “Disasi is one of the most underrated youngsters in Ligue 1 at the moment. A true hidden gem. We don’t talk about him enough. He would be an amazing signing for any top Premier League club. He was born to play in England.”

Disasi could be seen as Fabian Schar’s instant successor

If the reports that Newcastle have agreed terms with Disasi are true then this one should move pretty quickly, although Monaco will definitely be expecting a good profit on the €13million (£11milllion) they paid Stade Reims for Disasi in 2020.

Disasi would be a perfect fit for Newcastle, he’s still young enough that we will benefit from his best playing years but not too young that he isn’t first-team ready. He doesn’t seem to have any glaring weaknesses based on his scouting profile.

If Disasi comes in this summer it could meant that Fabian Schar could be relegated to the bench as Eddie Howe tries to establish the partnership with Botman, but we could then end up with one of the best young centre-back pairings in the league.
