Transfer oracle Fabrizio Romano has put one big Newcastle United rumour to bed, for now at least by claiming Eddie Howe currently has no interest in Dusan Vlahovic.
Newcastle have seemingly turned their attentions towards Serie A this summer for their big transfer moves. One player that has been linked with the Magpies for a while is Dusan Vlahovic of Juventus.
The Serbian striker has caught the eye of several Premier League teams lately and Newcastle’s name has often been thrown in amongst them, but now Fabrizio Romano has claimed that there’s no truth to Newcastle’s interest.
Fabrizio Romano says Vlahovic is not on Howe’s radar just now
Writing in his column for Caught Offside, Romano said: “Despite working hard on the Italian market in recent times, one player Newcastle United are not currently looking at is Juventus striker Dusan Vlahovic.
“I don’t know if Eddie Howe appreciates the Serbian or not, but as of right now, there is nothing concrete to these links.”
This may come as a bit of a blow to Newcastle fans as Vlahovic is definitely a superb talent and would have been an awesome signing for Eddie Howe with his ‘lightning quick‘ pace and deadly finishing.
The 23-year-old scored 14 goals and laid on four assists in 42 appearances all competitions for Juventus last season which is a steep drop off from his 29 goals in 45 appearances the season before.
Despite that drop in form, Juventus will still be asking for around £68million for the forward, which will likely be well out of Newcastle’s price range given the huge sum being spent on Sandro Tonali.
Newcastle have other priorities before looking at forwards
The reality is, as good as Vlahovic could be for Newcastle, a new striker is far from Eddie Howe’s priority this summer, so what Romano says makes sense.
A new full-back, right-sided centre back, defensive midfielder (Tonali) and attacking midfielder are the priorities for Newcastle this summer. We have Alexander Isak and Callum Wilson who both proved they know where the back of the net is, so there’s no urgent need for a new forward.
More back-up would obviously be welcome, but we have other areas to deal with first.
