The most exciting striker Newcastle have been linked with is Moussa Dembele – but he’s also the most unrealistic.
According to the Daily Star, Steve Bruce would love to bring the Lyon forward to St James’ Park, hoping that Mike Ashley will sanction a big money move this month.
The Magpies reportedly scouted Dembele on Saturday, with the striker finding the net in a 2-1 win over Bordeaux. They weren’t alone, with representatives from Manchester City, Manchester United and West Ham present as well.
He’s now scored 13 goals in all competitions, the same amount that last season’s top scorer Ayoze Perez managed for Newcastle.
It’s clear that Dembele would solve our goalscoring issues. He was lethal in front of goal for Celtic, and he’s continued his good form in Ligue 1. But he might be out of reach.
According to Sky Sports, Chelsea have already had a £34 million bid rejected for the 23-year-old. Massive clubs are targeting the Frenchman, so why on earth would he come to Newcastle?
Lyon have reached the knockout stages of the Champions League, while interested parties such as Chelsea are also competing in Europe’s elite competition. As for Newcastle, they’re just looking to get by in the Premier League.
It’s good to see Bruce eyeing quality players, but Moussa Dembele is a totally unrealistic target.
