It’s now understood that Newcastle United have made a bid for one of the most exciting young talents in the world.

Newcastle are one of several top teams who are keeping an eye on 17-year-old Lucas Bergvall who has been heavily impressing in Sweden’s top division this year.

A new report from Expressen, which is relayed by Football Transfers, has claimed that Newcastle have placed a bid for the teenager who is also wanted by the likes of Barcelona, Inter and Eintracht Frankfurt.

Bergvall is one of the most exciting talents in the world

Although he’s just 17-years-old, Bergvall already has gained worldwide recognition as a top talent having played at the heart of Djurgarden’s midfield in the 2023 season, helping them to achieve a fourth-placed finish.

Back in October, The Guardian ranked the teenager as one of the 60 most exciting players to be born in 2006 having made the leap to top division football in his home country.

Bergvall has already worked his way through the ranks of Sweden’s international youth system and it’s believed that he could be part of a golden generation for the country, with Alexander Isak one of the main stars.

The biggest problem Newcastle will face with their interest in the young midfielder is the interest from the likes of Frankfurt who, according to journalist Florian Plettenberg, are pushing to get him signed.

Newcastle are making a huge push for young talents

Since the arrival of Dan Ashworth as sporting director at the club, Newcastle have been very keen to overhaul their academy and add some of the best young players from around the world.

That’s exactly what they had in mind when signing the likes of Yankuba Minteh who has been impressing heavily for Feyenoord, but there have also been some big additions in Newcastle’s youth sides that have gone under the radar.

Bergvall could be the next name that makes the jump to the Premier League, but it would be a huge coup for Newcastle who right now are struggling to sign players for their first team.
