It feels like just a matter of time before Newcastle United sign Kieran Tierney from Arsenal.
The Scottish defender has been heavily linked with a move to St James’ Park for months now, and it has recently been reported that he is expected to sign for the Magpies.
Eddie Howe is looking to add a new left-back to his squad this summer, and Tierney is Newcastle’s top target.
The 26-year-old looks like the ideal addition, and Newcastle appear to be ready to press ahead with a deal for the former Celtic man. That is despite interest from Aston Villa, who are also keen to sign the out of favour Arsenal man.
Luckily, it sounds like Newcastle are getting their ducks in a row to ensure they can snap up Tierney ahead of Villa.

Newcastle getting ready to sign Kieran Tierney from Arsenal
According to i News, Newcastle have already ‘laid the groundwork’ to sign Tierney from Arsenal during this summer’s transfer window.
That is massively encouraging, and suggests that Newcastle are firm in their desire to make him their new left-back next season.
There has been a claim that Howe has some concerns over a possible move for Tierney given his injury record, but that feels contradictory. He appears to be the one and only left-back that Newcastle genuinely want, despite other rumours involving the likes of Renan Lodi.

Tierney would be a top quality addition, and should add more balance to Howe’s side. Given Kieran Trippier’s attacking ability, a lot of our attacks go down the right. That can sometimes make us predictable.
But with Tierney also capable going forwards, it means Newcastle can have a bit more variety in attack. That is something we have lacked this season, with Dan Burn much more comfortable doing the defensive side of the game.
With Newcastle getting things prepared for a move for Tierney, it sounds like it could be all systems go very soon. The transfer market officially opens on June 14th, so hopefully it is not long before we see an official bid for the Arsenal man.
