Newcastle United may be looking to add a new striker to the ranks this summer with a report claiming they’ve made an enquiry to Sevilla about their 18-goal forward Youssef En-Nesyri.
A report in the Sunday Mirror (via The Boot Room) has suggested that Newcastle have reached out to Europa League champions Sevilla to enquire about the availability and price of their 26-year-old Moroccan striker, Youssef En-Nesyri.
En-Nesyri was part of the Morocco side that shocked everybody in the World Cup last year and he even bagged three goals at the tournament.
El-Nesyri is open to offers this summer which has tempted Newcastle
At Sevilla last season he managed 18 goals in all competitions over 48 games, four of which came in their successful Europa League campaign.
The Mirror report suggests that the En-Nesyri would like Sevilla to be receptive to any offers which could open the door for Newcastle, but it will all hinge on how much Sevilla want for him.
Goal once described En-Nesyri as ‘dynamic and powerful’ when he was linked with a move to West Ham in 2021 just as he was hitting a pocket of form for Sevilla.
However, En-Nesyri’s next season was plagued by injuries and poor form but it seems he got it together last season.
Is En-Nesyri a good fit for Newcastle?
To me he sounds a bit hit-and-miss for Newcastle. A striker who only managed eight league goals last season isn’t what we need right now, those days are gone for us.
I’m hoping this one doesn’t go beyond the enquiry stage as he doesn’t sound like he’s at the right level for what we’re trying to achieve. He’d maybe be good as a back-up striker behind Alexander Isak and Callum Wilson, but Sevilla are likely to demand big money for him which makes the deal make no sense.
A centre-forward isn’t a priority for Newcastle this summer, so if there is any truth to the En-Nesyri links it might be one for the back end of the window when we have the priority positions filled.
