Newcastle United have been bolstering their youth ranks for a while now.

Though much of the transfer attention will naturally be focused towards what ready-made superstars Newcastle are bringing in, PIF are clearly looking toward the future too.

All of Bruno Guimaraes, Sven Botman, Alexander Isak, Anthony Gordon, Sandro Tonali, Tino Livramento and Lewis Hall all arrived at St James’ Park in their mid-twenties or younger, of course.

Then, there’s the level below the first-team, with Newcastle having signed Harrison Ashby, Garang Kuol and Yankuba Minteh – albeit the latter has now left for Brighton on a permanent basis.

That commitment to signing youth products continued on Saturday when the club confirmed the addition of Serbian youngster Miodrag Pivas.

Indeed, it seems Newcastle are not done there.

Arsenal youngster Chido Obi-Martin has been hailed as “unbelievable” by Gunners academy coach Jack Wilshere and is seemingly a target on Tyneside.

According to the print edition of the Sunday Mail (page 87 on 21/07/2024), Newcastle are one of the clubs speaking to the teenager, who is destined to leave the north London club after rejecting the offer of a new contract.

Newcastle do want to sign a new forward this summer

At the age of 16, it is incredibly unlikely he would be in the first-team picture even if he does join Newcastle this summer, though he’s increasingly being linked with a move to Manchester United instead.

It is interesting to note, however, that the club are looking for a new forward this summer and may be without Callum Wilson for the season opener at home to Southampton.

There’s clearly a lot of hype around the youngster, so it’s easy to see why Newcastle would be interested, particularly in a position they reportedly wish to strengthen anyway.
