In January 2018, it seemed certain that Daniel Sturridge would join Newcastle.

A medical was reportedly lined up ahead of a six-month loan deal, but the striker inevitably changed his mind.

Instead, he would head to West Brom. However, he was unable to help them avoid relegation, failing to score in six appearances.

Meanwhile, Newcastle signed Islam Slimani who was equally as poor.

Sturridge eventually left Liverpool permanently last summer, heading to Turkey. He agreed a three-year deal with Trabzonspor.

But yet again, things have gone wrong for the former England international.

The 30-year-old has had his contract terminated by mutual consent, meaning he is now a free agent. He ends his time in Turkey with seven goals in 16 appearances.

And with Newcastle struggling for goals, some fans have stated they want to see the former Liverpool man arrive on a free.

Steve Bruce’s side have failed to score in their past four Premier League games, drawing 0-0 with Burnley on Saturday.

With Andy Carroll already injured, do we really need another crock arriving to keep him company?

And with a 25-man Premier League squad already named, a deal wouldn’t be possible anyway. Instead, we’ll have to persevere with what we’ve already got.

But that hasn’t stopped some fans dreaming of seeing Sturridge in black and white.
