Newcastle fans have taken to Twitter to bemoan one thing following confirmation that Florian Lejeune has joined Alaves on loan.
The Toon Army were quick to wish him well and acknowledge what a good player he is. However, they also found time to rue his awful injury problems.
Sadly, the Frenchman has had dreadful luck regarding his fitness at St James’ Park. Since his £8.7 million arrival from Eibar, the centre-back has missed a total of 48 games according to Transfermarkt.
Lejeune has suffered problems with his ankle, knee, thigh and cruciate ligament while on Tyneside, but was still an excellent player when he did make it out onto the field.
There is plenty of love for the 29-year-old at Newcastle, seen purely in the reaction to his exit.
It hopefully isn’t the end for Lejeune on Tyneside. His move is only a temporary one, and he is clearly liked by many at the club.
A season in La Liga – a physically less demanding division – should help ease him back into the swing of things in time for the 2021/22 campaign.
We’ll also never forget that simply unbelievable stoppage-time double against Everton at Goodison Park last term, in which he pulled off a bicycle kick to help us nick a late point!
Newcastle fans bemoan Lejeune’s bad luck with injuries following his departure…
Such a shame the injuries he suffered. He was easily our best defender without them.

Big fan of the guy. On his day our best defender and seems to have a great attitude too. Been seriously unlucky with injuries. Hopefully he can have a good run of games and come back fit for us next season.
