Once upon a time, Adam Armstrong seemed destined for big things at Newcastle United.
He was the shining light of the academy, scoring goals in all age groups, as well as excelling for the England youth sides.
It seemed like he would follow in the footsteps of Andy Carroll, emerging from the reserves to be our new Geordie hero.
However, that did not happen.

Armstrong made 21 first team appearances in all competitions for Newcastle, but was unable to register a single goal.
A lot of his opportunities came off the bench, while Rafa Benitez was unable to give him the minutes he needed in the Championship.
In 2018, Armstrong’s Newcastle journey came to an end. He signed a permanent deal with Blackburn Rovers, costing an initial £1.75million.
Fortunately for him, he’s starting to fulfil his potential at Ewood Park.
The 23-year-old is enjoying a great season, scoring nine goals and providing six assists.

And his impressive form has reportedly caught the attention of Premier League clubs. According to Lancs Live, Newcastle are one of the sides interested in Armstrong – almost two years since he left St James’ Park.
But does he deserve a second chance in black and white? Talk of Armstrong has divided Toon fans. Some think he never should have been sold, while others believe he is Championship quality.
Personally, I’m inclined to agree with the latter, as great as it would be to see Armstrong finally fulfil his potential in a Newcastle shirt.
