Granit Xhaka is reportedly a target for Newcastle United with an Arsenal exit looking inevitable.
According to the Times, the Magpies are considering a January move for the midfielder, who was recently stripped of the captaincy at Arsenal after his antics against Crystal Palace.
The Swiss international has had a rough season so far, struggling to impress as the Gunners suffer a case of second season syndrome under Unai Emery.
Xhaka joined Arsenal in 2016 from Borussia Monchengladbach for £35 million, but it’s fair to say he hasn’t lived up to expectation. Bar the odd screamer, including one against us last season, his performances haven’t matched the lofty price tag.
And after the Palace game, he’s public enemy number one for most Arsenal supporters. They want to see the back of him in January.
Unsurprisingly, there are a lot of Newcastle fans who aren’t enthused by the talk of him heading to St James’ Park in January. However, there is a portion of the Toon Army who think he’d be a great addition for Steve Bruce.
The Magpies boss addressed the rumours on Friday, describing him as a “very good player” to the Chronicle. It seems some fans agree.
Some Newcastle fans want to see Xhaka in black and white
As I said the other day, Xhaka would be adored at NUFC. The type of player we all love

Unpopular opinion: I would be happy with Granit Xhaka signing for #NUFC. Fresh start and regular football for him, experience and bite in midfield for us. If nothing else, he is an option that we don’t currently have. Loan until end of the season would be good…

Good! I watched Xhaka for years at Monchengladbach! He was quality, ran the midfield with ease! Hence why arsenal paid so much for him! Imo never used right by wenger or emery! #NUFC https://t.co/hyYqdCvdHR

Would be a good signing Imo.

He’s not good enough for a club like Arsenal that aspire to be a top four side. But for a top ten club, or in our case a club that only wants to survive, he’d be a good signing.
