Newcastle United fans have been reacting to a new claim about Mariano Diaz.
Jeunes Footeux has reported that Newcastle have been offered the Real Madrid striker.
The Spanish heavyweights are keen to offload the 28-year-old.
It has been a very underwhelming second stint at Real since returning to the club from Lyon in 2018.
He’s scored just six goals for los Blancos, after hitting 21 in all competitions for the French side in 2017/18.
Mariano has been unable to dislodge Karim Benzema from the starting XI. He’s also had competition from the likes of Rodrygo, Vinicius and Luka Jovic.
He clearly needs a fresh start, but it remains to be seen if Newcastle can afford him.
The player has two years left on his current contract. He also earns £3.4 million per season.
A new striker would certainly be most welcome for Newcastle.
Last term Callum Wilson shouldered a lot of the responsibility.
In the times he was sidelined through injury, the Magpies looked toothless.
There is absolutely room for improvement when it comes to reserve firepower.
