Newcastle United fans have been reacting to reports of interest in FC Porto forward Luis Diaz.

According to Portuguese outlet SPORT TV (and relayed by various English outlets), the Magpies are preparing to activate the player’s release clause in January.

Doing so would set Newcastle’s new owners back a whopping £68 million.

That would dwarf the £40 million paid for Joelinton in the summer of 2019 (BBC Sport).

The Brazilian remains the club’s record buy.

Diaz has been in stunning form so far this season, scoring seven goals in 11 matches.

That haul follows the four goals he got at this year’s Copa America. He finished just one behind Lionel Messi at the competition.

Diaz has been with Porto since 2019, when he joined from Colombian side Junior.

He has clocked up 109 appearances and scored 32 goals. He has also made 14 assists.

He made headlines in midweek when he got the winner against AC Milan in the Champions League.
